NEW DOUGLAS COUNTY LIBRARIES TO BE BUILT IN CASTLE PINES, PARKER AND LONE TREE

The new libraries will contain more connections to the outdoors, more meeting space and more portable technology.

The existing libraries are bursting at the seams with use and activity, and the new libraries will help meet demands. There will be more community spaces as well as more outdoor amenities. The new libraries will also feature more computers — including laptops, tablets and other portable devices people can check out.

The Castle Pines library will go from being about 2,500 square feet to 15,000 square feet; the Lone Tree Library from about 11,000 to about 27,000 square feet; and the Parker Library from 22,000 to 44,000 square feet.

The new Castle Pines Library is slated to be finished by the fall of 2015, with the completion of the new Parker and Lone Tree libraries coming in the first and second quarter of 2016. All three projects combined will cost $34.5 million. The general contractor is Fransen Pittman Construction Company Inc. of Englewood.
