MAY 16-31: PROPERLY RETIRE YOUR OLD OR DAMAGED AMERICAN FLAGS
Do you have an old American Flag that needs to be retired?
Once the American Flag becomes faded or torn, it is considered disrespectful to continue flying it.
When a flag is ready to be retired, it is tradition in the USA to burn that flag. From May 16-31, residents will have the opportunity to drop off their flags at the following locations so that their flag may be properly retired:
*The Douglas County Sheriff’s Substation, 9250 Zotos Dr., Highlands Ranch
*Larkspur Town Hall, 8720 Spruce Mountain Rd., Larkspur
*The Wilcox Building, 301 Wilcox St., Castle Rock
The Douglas County Veterans Affairs Office — along with Eagle Scout candidate Camden Meyer and Lone Tree Boy Scout Troop 628 — will then conduct an official American Flag Retirement Ceremony at 5 p.m. June 4 as part of Larkspur Settlers Day at Larkspur Community Park, 8850 Spruce Mountain Rd.
Other events featured during Larkspur Settlers Day include a Pow Wow, live bluegrass music, games for all ages, a petting zoo, ax throwing and a bonfire.
